Patent granted for award-winning Biomaster ‘bag for life’

Addmaster’s patent application for the unique Biomaster protected antibacterial 'bag for life' has been granted.

The news coincides with the signing of a new partnership agreement which will see the launch of an antibacterial bag in the Spring in a major European supermarket chain with stores in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands – watch this space for more details later.

Three of the UK’s biggest high street retailers – AsdaM&S and Morrisons are already offering their customers product protection against potentially harmful bacteria by introducing our innovative new reusable bag range.

International sales of the bag, including in South Africa and Australia, also helped Addmaster win a second Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2018.

Biomaster antibacterial technology is incorporated into the bag lining and helps reduce opportunities for cross-contamination and therefore minimise the potential for the spread of dangerous bacteria, such as E.coli and Campylobacter.

A study by Professor Anthony Hilton, head of Biological and Biomedical Science at Aston University, has shown that reusing unprotected carrier bags for a diverse range of contents could put consumers at risk of bacterial contamination.

Paul Morris, Addmaster Founder & CEO, said: “we are delighted to have our patent confirmed. We introduced the reusable ‘bag for life’ with Biomaster antibacterial technology a few years ago when we realised that single-use plastic shopping bags were no longer sustainable.

Today, our unique bag has become the universal, go-to accessory for shoppers concerned about their grocery bags becoming a haven for bacteria, fungi or moulds to grow – and in some cases even have a detrimental effect on health.”

The Biomaster reusable bag collection is now available in a wide range of sizes, materials and formats, including a sturdy grocery bag, a lunch bag, an insulated cool bag and a trolley bag.

The antibacterial bag for life is registered with Patent Serial Number GB2527063. Find out more about our antibacterial technology.
